Thanks to all those who signed up for the Choral trip to sing Messiah from Scratch at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London.

Check out this clip from 2013 – you might recognise a row of familiar basses at 0’27” and some enthusiastic tenors at 2’57″…

This massive event involves choirs from all over the world turning up to sing Handel’s Messiah together, without any rehearsal. By then, you will have studied Messiah for the Michaelmas concert, so this should be no problem! The result is superb: a wonderful adrenaline-filled performance which has everyone – singers and audience – leaving the hall on an amazing high.  It is a great chance for a weekend away to get to know the other members of Choral. We will book tickets on your behalf but you will be obliged to organise your own transport and accommodation. Closer to the event, members of Choral will be organising to stay together in a hostel close to the Albert Hall and we will circulate the details. (Please note Youth hostel accommodation is only available to the under-35s)

Everyone has paid their €20 deposit and we estimate the final total for the tickets will be about €50, depending on where we are allocated seats. The balance will be collected as soon as our booking is confirmed.

Please note: once you sign up you will be liable for the full cost of your ticket, whether or not you attend.

We do, however, make a concerted effort to sell unwanted tickets within the society in Michaelmas term. If on the other hand, you didn’t get to sign up, let us know if you’d like to be put on the cancellation list for tickets that may come up for sale next term.

We will keep you up to date with trip information by email, so keep an eye out for this over the summer.

What a great night! Well done to everyone involved, with special thanks for a thrilling performance to our soloists, Donna Gallagher, Laura Lamph, Jack Kincaid and Eoghan Desmond, as well as our orchestra led by Alan Smale and of course our musical director, David Leigh.

Huge thanks are due to our outgoing Honorary Treasurer, Aoife Kehoe for doing the (sometimes thankless!) job of keeping Choral in the black and last but not least to our Honorary Secretary 2014/15, Max Muenchmeyer, for his hard work and dedication over this last year. We wish him well in all his future endeavours.
