Michaelmas Term Concert Series

Michaelmas Term Concert 2010Preparations for our upcoming concert series are in full flight! The complete programme consists of Hodie, Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Serenade to Music and Willow-Wood, all by the renowned British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. The performance of the Christmas cantata Hodie will be only the third ever in Ireland and the first in 28 years! Choral is extremely proud to present the Irish premiere of Willow-Wood, a cantata for orchestra and baritone solo that has only been performed live once before.

The Michaelmas Term concerts will take place in the Examination Hall, Trinity College Dublin on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th November 2010, with tickets priced at €15 or €10 concession. For more information, do not hesitate to contact us.

Also, there is still time to become a Friend of the Society in advance of the upcoming concert series. Friendship includes two complimentary tickets to the final concert of each term and entry to the pre-concert Friends reception. Click here for further information.

Rehearsals Continue

Many thanks to all who came to our first rehearsal last Wednesday – it was a very impressive attendance! Apologies again for the situation with the scores, but this should be resolved for this week’s rehearsal. Since it is still only the second week of term, we would also like to mention that new members are still welcome to join. Just show up at our rehearsal on Wednesday in Regent House (above Front Arch).  Since we will need to distribute scores to all members this Wednesday, we ask everyone to arrive by 6.45 pm if possible. Hope to see you all on Wednesday!

Tonight marks our first rehearsal and the official beginning of the 2010-2011 year for Choral. The rehearsal will begin at 7 pm in Regent House (above Front Arch), but we ask members to arrive for about 6.30 pm, as many new members will be queuing to sign up and scores will be distributed. Also, we will be going MacTorcaills pub on Townsend Street afterwards for some food and drinks, so please don’t run off when the rehearsal is over! The committee looks forward to meeting all of you this evening. See you there!

First Rehearsal

Now that the dust has settled after our tremendously successful Freshers’ Week and Wine Reception, we are only a couple of days away from getting down to the business of singing at our first rehearsal. It will take place in Regent House (above Front Arch) on Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm. Be sure to arrive early as many new members will be queuing to sign up on the night and scores will also need to be distributed. During the rehearsal, we will be looking for members to express their interest in going on the trip to the Messiah from Scratch in the Royal Albert Hall, London on the 28th of November.

As previously outlined, this term’s programme is a Christmas-themed celebration of the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams, consisting of Hodie and Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Also, if you didn’t get a chance to sign up to Choral during Freshers’ Week, never worry as you can sign up at the rehearsal on Wednesday night (and remember, no audition is required!). The commitee looks forward to seeing you all there!

Wine Reception Reminder

It’s been a great Freshers’ Week for Choral thus far, with well in excess of 100 new members joining the society! On Friday evening at 6 pm we will be hosting our main event for the week – a wine reception. It should be a great opportunity for new members to meet each other and the committee for the upcoming year. It’s being held in the Eliz Rooms on the first floor of House 6 (the one with the SU shop!). If you havn’t yet joined, we will of course be at our stand in Front Square near the Chapel until 4 pm on Friday to sign you up. Hope to see a good turnout at the reception and then at the first rehearsal next Wednesday!
