Echoing the first premiere of this work in Dublin back in 1742, the splendid setting of Trinity’s Examination Hall will help to get you in the festive mood just as December rolls around. Joined by guest soloists under the expert baton of David Leigh, the University of Dublin Choral Society invites you to mark the date in your diaries and join us for what promises to be a wonderful evening of music and festivities.

Freshers’ Week Concert


Join us on Wednesday 23rd September for an exciting performance of some of the best loved choral works in the canon.

The University of Dublin Choral Society’s Summer Singers will be joined by the Viva String Ensemble, Niall O’Sullivan (trumpet) and guests for this concert.

Upcoming term

The Choral Society is proud to announce that in November 2015 the society will perform Handel’s world-famous Messiah in the College’s Public Theatre over two nights.

Do you want to be part of this? Whether you have been a member for years or are considering membership of the Choral Society for the first time, we would be delighted if you decided to join us in this exciting project. All vocal ranges and levels of singing experience are welcome. Summer Singing is back!

Yes, if you’ve been suffering from unexplained mood swings, irritability, loss of motivation or just a vague sense of ennui (mainly on Wednesdays), this is what’s been missing from your life. Our dedicated group of Summer Singers will meet weekly to sing a wide variety of chamber music and put on some small concerts, under the baton of Ross Cullinane.

  • Saturday 20 June: ‘The North Began‘ symposium, JM Synge theatre, TCD, 4.30pm
  • Monday 6 July: Holy Trinity Church, Cookstown, Co Tyrone, 7pm.
  • Wednesday 23rd September: Freshers’ Week concert, Trinity Chapel, 8pm.

Rehearsals begin on Wed 3rd of June at 7pm in the Eliz Rooms (1st floor, House 6).

Summer Holidays


Thanks to everyone for all their hard work over the year, producing two excellent concerts in College and a thrilling night in the National Concert Hall.

If you can’t do without Choral over the summer break, keep an eye on the website for smaller chamber events that may arise in the coming months. If you are on the current mailing list, you’ll be kept up to date, if not, sign up using the contact form here.

We are looking forward to performing the universally loved Handel’s Messiah in Michaelmas term, so if you are new to College or an old hand interested in joining Choral, why not get in touch or come and visit our stand in Front Square during Fresher’s Week? Choral+ Trinity Week Concert

If you’d like to hear Choral performing on a smaller scale, why not drop in to our free chamber music event in Trinity Week?

FitzgeraldChoral+ is a small vocal ensemble consisting of students, staff and graduate members of the University of Dublin Choral Society. Informal in nature, and with a wide repertoire, the group has performed at receptions and events both on and off campus.

Choral+, conducted by our Librarian, Ross Cullinane, will perform ‘A Little Light Music’, a short a cappella concert of pieces on the theme of ‘Light’ in the Fitzgerald Library (Physics), Tuesday 14th April, 5.45pm

This event is open to the public, no booking required.

Choral+ Trinity Week Concert


Finally Choral+ is returning to the spotlight!!

If you fancy the idea of singing in a smaller chamber ensemble, this is the event for you.

We have been kindly invited to take part in the Trinity Week celebrations with a concert on Tuesday the 14th of April, in the early evening. The theme for the concert is ‘Light’ and our esteemed Librarian, Ross Cullinane will conduct.

Verdi Requiem

The University of Dublin Choral Society is proud to present Verdi’s ever popular Requiem, a work which, as much as any of his operas, traverses the gamut of human emotion, from the terrifying and blood-curdling vision of the day of judgement to the consolation of eternal peace and rest.  The Society is joined in this performance by orchestra and soloists drawn from the best of Ireland’s young singers.

Interested in helping to shape the future of one of College’s oldest societies? Want some committee experience for your CV? Love Choral and want to get more involved?

Whatever your motivation, if you are thinking about running for Choral Committee, we’d love to hear from you. Email if you’d like to find out more from current Committee members about what the various roles involve. If you’re new to Choral this year, even better! Enthusiasm for new ideas keeps our older TCD societies alive and kicking.

If you’ve decided to take the plunge, submit your nomination and second by February 13th. You will have the opportunity to make a very quick pitch at the AGM on Wed 18th Feb and all the ordinary members will vote in a closed ballot. The new Committee will be announced that night and at their first meeting, the various roles will be assigned in an internal election i.e. you do not need to run for a specific post at the AGM, these will be decided later.

So please consider taking part – it’s your society, make your voice heard!
